TPC
Here I was visiting Kit's blog (Diva Quilts) and I ended up at her friend's, Crystal (The Sonnet of the Moon). Suddenly I realised that this person I have never met has exactly the same taste for books, food and patchwork. Isn't it funny?

Quase quase... / Not quite yet...
That's right... I added another row of squares, a plain strip on top and some more magic dust (which means I decided to make it a shoulder bag and I added an inside pocket, still sticking with reversible). But... I'm not pleased. My bag - yes, this one is meant for me - looks like a child bag. And it's all because of the 2,5 inches. I get along with centimetres just fine.
I'm undoing the top strip and the shoulder strips and adding at least eight more squares. Because I said so.

Fechar a porta antes de abrir a janela / Closing a door before opening a window
Which means, don't start too many new projects before finishing the previous ones. But sometimes it's just life. You don't feel like finishing one, you can't wait until you start another, you have a special order, you have a deadline, etc etc etc.
Here's the result of yesterday's afternoon sewing. An upgrade to my pathetic pincushion:
I used the scraps of my favourite stash from previous projects and bought two coordinating buttons. Then I sewed them and did a stich in blue, because I noticed a lack of my favourite colour.
I also did a little purse for R. to keep his tobacco. Up until now, he carried his machine to make the cigars (and the tobacco inside always falling out) in a plastic bag advertising a pharmaceutical product, for obstipation, imagine!
He had the iniciative of asking me to do this for him, I let him choose the fabrics, created the model and decided the best closing method, my mother provided with the inner fabric... et voilá! I think it turned out great... and R. loved it!
A verdade é que me custa terminar algo que me apetece desmanchar.
However, except for the pincushion, I still haven't made anything for myself. Not even the patchwork bag I mentioned (I chose the fabrics but I didn't even cut them yet). I'm trying hard to finish everything else...
1. I have to finish the purse for Nônô's Magalhaes pc (she is the daughter of one of my colleagues). Let's say it's halfway through, since it was nearly finished and then I had to undo it because I made a mistake. It would be so much easier to just take notes at the sewing classes!
2. I should finish the project I started at the patchwork workshop. The excuse of "it's too hot outside" won't do for much longer. The truth is that I have a problem with finishing something I feel like undoing. And why?, might you ask. It's not that I don't like it, it's not that I regret my fabric choices... it's just because I'm always going to be someone who values function over aesthetics and even though that runner allowed me to learn a lot during the workshop it simply won't be used. I know you should never say "never", but believe me when I tell you that runner won't be used. Therefore it's a waste of fabric and I rather leave it on stand-by, because I'm not going to undo it until I have something in mind for it either. I'll take some photos (preferably not with me cell phone, I know, I know) and post them here and hope that maybe someone will have a suggestion.
Oh, I take the opportunity to show the placemat after the quilting. I ended up not doing the little "glass-mat" because the placemat was big enough.

Múltiplos de 3... ou não! / Multiples of 3... or not!
When I need to combine 3 fabrics, I only come up with combinations of 2, of 4 or even of more...
(the photos are still horrible because I take them with my cell and lots of times at night... but it's just that I always forget to take the camera with me!)

Use patchwork in the daily-use sewing projects instead of just thinking about big quilts??? I think I've just found my project for today. Let the games begin!

Fériassss! / Summer holidayssss!
*** Mind the translation ***
I didn't think I was going to have summer holidays this year, because I'm new at my current job, but as it turns out the company where I work has the policy of closing for a fortnight, which means I was the one to benefit from it!
Unlike other years, this time we decided not to go to Algarve and stick around. We'll do a tourist-in-our-own-town kind of thing. But this also means that I'll have time to my projects, iuupiii!!!
Yesterday evening I went upstairs to my workspace and was faced with a dilemma: either I'd finish the patchwork I started last week in that workshop I went - only the quilting and the biding are missing - or I'd practise the tecnhique I learned and use it in daily life projects that I could keep for myself or give away as presents. This last option won, even more so because temperatures have been always over 30º C and it would have been such a sacrifice to do the quilting.
Here comes a placemat!!!
And because I have some extra squares, I'll even do a "glass-placemat".
Once again, only the quilting and the biding are missing (even though I already tried the biding with different fabrics, but the one I like the most is the one I don't have enough of). The backing is already cut. When I buy more batting I'll do the sandwich. Until then, I think I'll do more small projects like this one, in order to practise these first steps. I'll have plenty of oportunities to practise the remaining steps when I do the quilting and biding of every project... next fall!

When I really love a fabric, I tend to buy that pattern in several colours. I've always done that with clothes I bought from the store, now it's with fabrics...

E para terminar em grande... / And on top of everything else...
A professora Aldina fez-me cá uma falta.

I spent my Sunday sewing once again the reversible Amy Butler bag (once again, minus the bow) with the fabrics I had bought thinking of my friend Sílvia. It's her birthday today, but yesterday evening, immediatly after finishing sewing the bag, I went to meet her to give it to her. She was leaving for her summer holidays today and she needed her new bag, don't you think? She loved it! Honestly, the pictures are crap but the bag came together really nicely. This flower pattern combines with everything and really gets along with the fabric I chose for the interior (or exterior, depending on your point of view, since it is a reversible bag).
It was an adventure to sew this bag by heart. I couldn't remember half the steps! I missed teacher Aldina a lot. This should teach me to take notes in my sewing classes!
É suposto divertir-me a fazer isto e não matar-me toda para correr a maratona!
*** Mind the Translation ***
I looooooved the patchwork workshop. It' was really intense, it's true - I spent 9 hours cutting and sewing-, but it made me feel fulfilled. The funny thing is, because I read so many blogs and sites and books and God-knows-what, the idea I had about how it is made was right. But having someone so experienced and with true love for the art as dear sensei Paula to teach us all the tricks that only one who knows can teach... that's priceless!
Since it was a beginner's class, we were all in the same boat and the general vibe was the coolest (exception given to a certain black sheep, who actually was wearing white ehehe).
We were supposed to finish our project during the class hours, but despite staying there for over two additional hours, I came home without doing the quilting and biding part. I wasn't the only one not to finish, but I was probably the slowest one... But it's ok, I'll finish it another day, I was already so tired that day.... This is supposed to be for fun, not like a marathon!

Iuuuuuupi!!!
There will be a patchwork class for beginners next saturday in the same shop were I have my sewing lessons!!! I had looked for patchwork classes in other places. Between being expensive, taking place at impossible dates, etc etc, I was starting to despair. But now my prayers have been answered!

Voilá!!!
Here you have some pictures of my workspace to get a 360º view of how it looks after a touch of the magic wond. Thanks R.!!!
Cortesia do IKEA!
One of my favourite things (between my obsession for lamps and my pride and joy that is my Bernina Aurora, it's hard to choose what I love the most) is the carpet. At home we don't have any, because of the dogs, but to this room I chose a really colourful one!!! Courtesy of IKEA!
